During a trip to Sweden, Loran Nordgren was so moved by the storybook home of 19th-century artist Carl Larsson that it re-awakened his dream of building a spacious family complex. He wanted a place where his children and grandchildren could gather; a place that would bring family together but also allow for solitude. He had just the right setting: 420 acres in southwestern Wisconsin, graced with the same dense green forests, bright blue skies, and clear light that had delighted him in
Sweden.
