Filled with the colors of sky, sea, and sun, this renovated Connecticut cottage gets a fresh new look.

When their rambling Connecticut Victorian became more house than they needed, Paula and Dick Leonard moved into a cozy cottage right around the corner. They peeled away the living-room ceiling, trading some attic space for soaring height, and transformed two cramped bedrooms into a bright new kitchen with a sitting room at one end (left). Jaunty striped club chairs keep company near a rock maple drop-leaf table that’s been in the family for years. Outside the door lies a shaded screened porch with a view to the garden gate.
